Idon't know of any horror fans that think it sucked though. I agree it's one of the best exorcism subgenre films. Blending the traditional exorcism beats with courtroom drama helped differentiate it and allowed a great pacing structure. All the horror elements were well executed yet reserved enough to not feel ridiculous as many similar movies do. I like it better than The Exorcist. Exorcist went for more shock value I think. Don't get me wrong I enjoy watching it but The Exorcism Of Emily Rose is more grounded in reality I think. Jennifer Carpenter was phenomenal!! She didn't need any special effects makeup or a scary voice dubbed over her own voice to be scary. Then just when we're shrinking into the gaps in the sofa cushions and cursing ourselves for switching off the lights, we're flung back into the harsh lights of the courtroom, which acts as a reprieve from the horror. Overall, The Exorcism of Emily Rose is a worthwhile watch and a well-executed horror movie that quite respectfully adapts 9Xrk.
